IELTS voucher and discount codes in Australia: what IDP actually offers
We found no discount code for the IELTS test fee on IDP's Australian pages. The fee is AUD $490 for Academic and General Training. IDP does give a free online preparation course if you book early, through what it calls a voucher, and it publishes a 10% code for its paid Full IELTS Mock Test. Book only on IDP's own page.
Many coupon sites list IELTS voucher codes. This page sticks to what IDP, which runs IELTS in Australia, publishes about discounts and vouchers. It also explains where scams hide, and where the real savings are.
What IDP says about the test fee
One price, no late fee, and no code mentioned.
"The cost for an IELTS English test in Australia is $490. The price for the test is the same whether you take IELTS General Training or IELTS Academic."
IDP runs IELTS in Australia. Its fee page, last updated 24/03/2026, gives one price for both versions. It adds that there is no separate registration fee or payment processing fee, and no late payment fee. In some locations the fee can be slightly higher, and IDP says test fees are subject to change.
Nothing on that page offers a discount code on the test fee itself. We read IDP's Australian pages on the fee, preparation and mock test, and the offers we found are the two below: a free course if you book early, and a discount on a paid mock test. If you see a code for the test fee on another site, treat it with suspicion and read the safety section below.
The voucher and the 10% code: what they are
Two real offers, neither on the test fee.
Many readers ask about an IELTS voucher code in Australia. IDP does use the word voucher, and it means this:
"If you book your IELTS test early, you can take advantage of a free online preparation course. You get access to this with a special voucher after you book."
So the voucher is the access link to a free online preparation course, which arrives after you book. IDP's guide to preparation materials describes it as worth $80: you pick either a one-skill package with 30 days on your chosen skill, or an all-skills package with unlimited access to all four skills for 4 days. That guide is dated 15/08/2022, so confirm the current terms in your booking email.
The second offer is a code, and it is for a paid mock test, not for the test fee. IDP's Full IELTS Mock Test, made with E2Language, carries a 10% discount. IDP says:
"No, it’s a paid mock test designed to give you a realistic score estimate and a skills breakdown. To support your preparation, we offer a 10% discount. Simply apply the code"
"Disclaimer: Only one promotional code may be applied per booking. Discounts cannot be combined."
The code is printed on IDP's mock test page, so get it from there. We do not copy codes onto this page: they can change, and the page is the only place you can be sure it is current. IDP also says the mock test result is indicative only and cannot be used as official results. It is practice, not the real test.
Buying safely: only through IDP
Voucher and coupon sites are where scams hide.
Coupon and voucher listings for IELTS are full of third-party sites. Some are harmless coupon pages. Some are scams. IDP warns about fraud directly:
"Be careful with other websites or apps. If you need to book, prepare, or access your results, it's easy to do so from this website, or by downloading our official IELTS by IDP app."
IDP says anyone claiming to sell you an IELTS certificate is trying to scam you, and it asks you to report suspicious offers to [email protected]. It also warns about phishing emails that pose as IELTS and ask you to finalise payment by replying to the email or phoning a number. Its advice: check the sender's address, and if in doubt, contact your test centre using the details on IDP's website, not the ones in the suspicious message.
- Book on IDP's own booking page, or in the IELTS by IDP app.
- Pay only on the payment page of that booking. Do not pay a person or a coupon site for a voucher.
- If a site asks you to send your passport details or payment to anyone other than IDP, stop.
- If you want a code, use only one that appears on an IDP page, and enter it in the code box at checkout.
Where the real savings are
A good plan saves more than a code.
The honest way to spend less on IELTS in Australia is to avoid paying twice. IDP's fee page lists these prices:
| Service | Fee IDP shows |
|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | $490 |
| IELTS General Training | $490 |
| IELTS One Skill Retake | $310 |
| IELTS Enquiry on Result | $240 |
- Prepare before you book, with free material. The familiarisation test and practice tests cost nothing extra, and IDP says you can get a free preparation course if you book early.
- Aim to pass the first time. A full retake costs the full fee again.
- If you miss one part, ask IDP whether you are eligible for One Skill Retake, which IDP lists at $310 against $490 for a full test. IDP's Australian results page says it is currently only available if you took IELTS on computer at an eligible test centre and have received your results, and that you must take it within 60 days of your original test date. Home Affairs says it accepts IELTS results that include One Skill Retake for eligible visas, and for the Temporary Graduate visa any retake must be completed before you lodge your application. Check your own visa page.
- Use the free change with care. IDP says you can change a booking once, free of charge, before your original test date, including the date and the module, for example Academic to General Training. Cancelling is different: IDP says refunds are full if cancelled 14+ days in advance, 50% if cancelled 7-13 days in advance, and none if cancelled less than 7 days before. IDP's refund table also says there is no refund if you previously changed your test date, so if you may want your money back, cancel instead of changing. These rules apply to bookings made on or after 1 July 2025.
This page is not immigration advice. IDP sets the fee and Home Affairs decides which results count, so use their pages as the final word.
