CELPIP results: how long they take and how to check them
CELPIP scores appear online in your CELPIP account 2 to 4 business days after the test, Paragon emails you when they are up, and you download the official score report as a PDF. If nothing has arrived after 4 to 5 business days, contact the CELPIP office. A re-evaluation is possible within six months of the test.
The CELPIP results timeline
Paragon's order of events.
If your scores are late
Paragon says delays are rare, and names three reasons.
- An extra review. We determined that your test required additional review before scores could be released. We may contact you for more information.
- An issue you reported. You reported an issue to Paragon Testing Enterprises within 24 hours of your test. We may hold the scores if we are still investigating.
- An identity check. We require additional confirmation of your identify, or we are investigating possible testing irregularities.
If it’s been more than 5 business days since your test and you have not received an email from the CELPIP Office, please feel free to contact us directly for more information. The FAQ section of Paragon's Contact CELPIP page puts the line at 4 business days instead of 5: If it’s been more than 4 business days since your test and you have not received an email from the CELPIP Office, please feel free to contact us directly for more information.
If it’s been 3 business days or less since your test, your scores should be posted soon! You will receive an email confirmation once your scores are available online.
Paragon's test overview and test day pages still say 3 to 4 business days. Its results page and July 2026 guidebook say 2 to 4, which is what this page uses.
How the level is worked out
Why you see a level and a range, not a raw mark.
Listening and reading are marked by computer. Since a raw score is merely the sum of the questions that a test taker has correctly responded to, it cannot account for these slight variations in difficulty. So Paragon converts raw scores to a scaled score, then to a level. Score equating is the process of correcting final scores for slight variations in difficulty between test forms. For example, if one test taker correctly answers 30 questions on a relatively easy form and another test taker answers 30 questions on a more difficult form, equating will correct for the disparity in form difficulty.
The charts show this as ranges for exactly that reason. See the listening and reading charts. While each test form contains different questions, each test form is constructed following explicit guidelines regarding content and difficulty. Paragon’s pre-testing and form creation procedures ensure that the different forms have approximately the same difficulty.
Speaking and writing are rated by trained raters against set criteria. Each CELPIP speaking performance is rated by three to five speaking raters, and each CELPIP writing performance is rated by four to six writing raters. Raters work independently of one another, and have no knowledge of the ratings assigned by other raters. When the ratings of a test taker’s performance are complete, they are inspected for agreement. If the ratings are in disagreement, a benchmark rater is automatically assigned to assess the performance.
Paragon describes writing in two ways. Its results page describes human raters, and its FAQ says: The CELPIP Writing Test is scored by an AI-human hybrid system that combines artificial intelligence with our human rating panel. All CELPIP writing scores are reviewed and verified by our rating team, ensuring that your CELPIP scores are certified against our rating criteria. Treat writing as scored by a mix of AI and people, with the rating team reviewing every score.
The “Average Score” on your report
A number that looks official and is not what IRCC uses.
Average scores are not used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for immigration and citizenship purposes. The ‘Average Score’ on your CELPIP score report does not equate to a CLB level, and is simply an average of the four CELPIP components.
Read the CLB for each skill from the CELPIP score chart, not from the average.
Re-evaluation
The way to ask for a second look.
| Rule | What Paragon says |
|---|---|
| When | You can apply for a re-evaluation of some or all components of your CELPIP-General Test within six months of the test date. |
| Cost | You must pay a re-evaluation fee at the time of your application that depends on which components of the test you would like re-evaluated. None of the Paragon pages we read lists the amounts, so check your CELPIP account. |
| Refund | Paragon's policy page and the FAQ section of its Contact CELPIP page say: If the CELPIP score/level increased in the Speaking and Writing components after the re-evaluation process, the re-evaluation fee paid in those components will be refunded. Its results page words it more widely, for any re-evaluated component whose level changes. Plan on the narrower rule. |
| Limit | Please note that there is a limit of one re-evaluation for any particular component of the test. |
| Cancelling | Re-evaluation requests are final sale, and cannot be cancelled once the request has been submitted. |
| How long | Test takers who apply for a re-evaluation of their test results will be notified of the results of the re-evaluation in approximately one to two weeks of submission of their application and payment of the re-evaluation fee. |
| Listening and reading | Please note that requesting a re-evaluation of the Listening and Reading components is unlikely to result in a change in your scores as they are computer rated. |
Think before you ask: it is one re-evaluation per component and a final sale. Unfortunately, we cannot speed up the completion of your re-evaluation.
How long a CELPIP score lasts
Three sources, three answers. The program's rule is the one that binds you.
| Source | What it says |
|---|---|
| Paragon, test format page | CELPIP scores are valid for two years from the date your score report is issued. |
| Paragon, results page | CELPIP scores are valid for five years from the date your score report is issued. |
| Paragon, your account | Your CELPIP Test scores can be accessed and viewed online in your CELPIP Account for a period of 5 years from your test date. That is how long you can view the scores, not how long a program accepts them. |
| IRCC, Express Entry | Your test results must be less than 2 years old when you: complete your Express Entry profile, and submit your application for permanent residence. |
Common questions

Paragon's pages disagree (two years on one, five on another), and IRCC wants Express Entry results less than 2 years old when you complete your profile and when you apply. Use two years.

Check what it can change before you pay. Paragon says: “Please note that requesting a re-evaluation of the Listening and Reading components is unlikely to result in a change in your scores as they are computer rated.” “Please note that there is a limit of one re-evaluation for any particular component of the test.” “Re-evaluation requests are final sale, and cannot be cancelled once the request has been submitted.” On the fee, Paragon says: “You must pay a re-evaluation fee at the time of your application that depends on which components of the test you would like re-evaluated.” On refunds it says: “If the CELPIP score/level increased in the Speaking and Writing components after the re-evaluation process, the re-evaluation fee paid in those components will be refunded.” Our reading: speaking and writing are the components where a re-evaluation can make a difference. The window and the timing are in the re-evaluation section of this page.

The PDF score report is official and accepted by institutions.” This page uses the results page and the guidebook range. Paragon also says: “If it’s been 3 business days or less since your test, your scores should be posted soon! You will receive an email confirmation once your scores are available online.” If your scores are late, see the late scores section of this page.
Paragon's name for the document is the CELPIP Official Score Report. It says: “Your CELPIP Official Score Report will be available for download as a PDF once the scores have been posted” and “hard copy score reports have been discontinued.” To send it to IRCC or another organisation: “please download a PDF copy of your CELPIP Official Score Report from your CELPIP account” You can keep viewing your scores online: “Your CELPIP Test scores can be accessed and viewed online in your CELPIP Account for a period of 5 years from your test date” That is how long you can view the scores, not how long a program accepts them.
