Occupational English Test fees in Canada: what OET charges
OET lists one price for most of the world: AU$587 for the full test, whichever of paper, computer at a venue or OET@Home is offered where you sit. It does not name Canada separately, so in our reading that price applies to a sitting in Canada. OET says not every mode is offered in every country and quotes in Australian dollars, so check your city on its booking page and expect your card to convert the amount.
This page sets out what OET charges and what the Canadian reader needs to know about it. The fee is OET's own, and the quotes below are its words. We say so when a line is our reading and not OET's.
What OET charges for a test in Canada
One rest-of-the-world price, in Australian dollars.
OET does not name Canada in its fee wording. It gives one price for the rest of the world and a separate price for the United States. The figure is in Australian dollars.
"The OET Test fee is: Rest of the world: AU$587 (for OET on Paper, OET on Computer at a venue, or OET@Home) United States: AU$587 (for OET on Paper) and USD$455 (for OET on Computer at a venue or OET@Home)"
| Where you sit | OET on Paper | OET on Computer or OET@Home |
|---|---|---|
| Rest of the world | AU$587 | AU$587 |
| United States | AU$587 | USD$455 |
Our reading: Canada is not the United States, so the rest-of-the-world line is the one that applies to a sitting in Canada. OET's page does not say Canada in so many words, so confirm the price on OET's booking page when you pick your date.
OET's fee page says the full test is four sub-tests, so the fee includes Speaking.
"The full OET Test (four sub-tests including Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking) costs AU$587 (or US$455 for OET on Computer at a venue and OET@Home in the US)."
Because the price is in Australian dollars, a Canadian dollar card will be converted at your bank's own rate. We cannot give you that Canadian dollar figure. On the OET pages we read, we did not find one.
Which version to book
The fee is the same, the acceptance is not.
OET sells the test in three modes and shows the same fee for all three, but it says not all modes are available in all countries, so check which ones are offered where you want to sit. What differs is whether the body that reads your result accepts the mode.
For doctors, OET's computer-test page says the computer version is accepted by FMRAC, the federation of medical regulators in Canada. OET's Canada page lists that federation as preferring the OET for provincial medical registration.
"Yes, the OET Test on Computer is accepted by major regulators including AHPRA (Australia), ECFMG (US), GMC, NMC, HPC (UK), NMBI (Ireland), NZ Midwifery Council (New Zealand) and FMRAC (Canada)."
"The OET Test is recognised across Canada, with the Federation of Medical Regulatory Authorities (FMRAC) of Canada listing it as the preferred test for provincial medical registration."
OET@Home is not an automatic choice. OET says it exists for countries where a venue is not yet available, and that not every regulator takes it.
"OET@Home® is offered in countries where taking the test at a venue is not yet available. Not all regulators accept OET@Home."
So before you pay for any mode, ask your regulator three things. OET puts the same three questions to you:
"Confirm with your Recognising Organisation: the minimum OET Test results they'll accept which OET Test delivery modes they accept if your OET Test results are required to be achieved in one sitting."
Our OET guide for Canada has the list of regulators OET names and the scores they ask for.
Extra fees: moving, cancelling, re-marking
OET quotes them in Australian dollars.
The fee for the test is only part of the cost if your plans change. These are OET's extra fees, in Australian dollars. The US dollar figures OET shows are for candidates in the United States. The refunds apply only if you cancel by OET's cut-off: one week before test day for OET on Paper, two days before for OET on Computer or OET@Home. You can defer a paper test up to the day before it, and reschedule a computer or OET@Home test up to two days before the start of your first sub-test. OET says a deferral cannot be reversed, and neither can a cancellation.
| If you | Fee or refund OET gives |
|---|---|
| Defer a paper test up to the booking closing date | AU $120 |
| Defer a paper test after the booking closing date | AU $200 |
| Reschedule computer or OET@Home up to 7 days before | AU $120 |
| Reschedule computer or OET@Home less than 7 days before | AU $200 |
| Cancel the full test before the booking closing date | Refund of AU$460 |
| Cancel the full test after the booking closing date | Refund of AU$380 |
| Ask for one part to be re-marked | AU$120 for each part, within 72 hours of results |
"To have your sub-test(s) remarked, you must pay a fee of AU$120 (Global, except US) / US$95 (US only) per sub-test for re-marking."
The full list, with how to change a booking and when single parts can be booked, is on our OET exam fees page. It is written for Australian sitters, but the fees come from the same OET pages.
Before you pay
What OET asks of you at booking.
OET's test page lists what you need to know before booking. These are its own lines.
- You pay the fee when you book.
- Register with a current personal email, not a university or workplace one.
- Give valid ID details and upload a photo that meets OET's requirements.
- Bring the same ID on test day for an ID check.
- You must accept OET's terms and privacy policy to register.
"Remember, the personal details you provide here must match your identification document exactly. If you provide inaccurate information, you may not be able to do your test."
If an employer or agency is paying for you, OET has a separate group and third-party route. It uses an application form, and OET must receive the application and payment fourteen calendar days before the advertised closing dates.
"Your completed application, along with the Candidate Details Sheet and your payment, must be received by OET 14 calendar days before the advertised test closing dates."
What else to budget for in Canada
Costs OET does not set.
OET's fee is not the whole bill if you are moving to work in Canada. Your regulator, residency program or employer sets its own fees for applying, and those are on their own pages. We do not quote them because we have not read them.
On OET's side, free preparation exists, so you do not need to pay to start. OET also sells a course for each part.
OET lists free preparation resources. The first ones it names are an Intro to OET online course, an OET Study Guide and a Writing Guide.
| OET course | Price OET lists |
|---|---|
| OET Reading Course | $30.00 AUD |
| OET Writing Course | $30.00 AUD |
| OET Listening Course | $30.00 AUD |
| OET Speaking Course | $30.00 AUD |
Our OET practice page shows where OET's free sample tests are and gives a short original set of our own.
How to check the price yourself
- Open OET's booking page and search your city and country.
- Pick the delivery mode and a date.
- Read the fee on the screen before you pay, and compare it with the figures on this page.
- If the screen differs, the screen is right. OET can change its fees.
